Lydia Spieker Services Held

Lydia Spieker, 84, of Wellsburg, passed away Thursday, September 22, at the Allen Memorial Hospital of natural causes.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 24, at 2 p.m. at the St. Peter's United Church of Christ, rural Wellsburg, with Pastor Ronald Fisher officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were John Heath, Arnold Benning, Jay Spieker, Garth Spieker, Daniel Spieker, and Chuck Gustafson.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Lydia was born on August 4, 1910, in German Township, Grundy county, the daughter of Jerry J. and Ella (Lindaman) Spieker.

Lydia was a member of the St. Peter's United Church of Christ and Women's Prayer Fellowship. She was a clerk at Cordes' Hardware for many years, enjoyed playing cards with her great nieces and friends and also enjoyed reading and working with flowers. She was active in church and taught Sunday School. She was always helping someone, either her family or her friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Anna; and one brother, Allen.

She is survived by one sister, Faye Benning and her husband LaVerne of Geneva; one sister-in-law Matilda Spieker of Wellsburg; three nieces and three nephews; ten great nieces and nephews.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of the professional arrangements.
