Christ Boike Dies Monday at Hospital In Iowa City
Christ Boike died in the hospital at Iowa City at 3 o'clock Monday morning. He had been afflicted with dropsy during the past year. He was at the Iowa City hospital for treatment for a number of weeks during the fall. He was returned to the hospital ten days before his death.
The remains were sent to Conrad on Monday and on Wednesday they were taken to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jake Hoffa, seven miles west of Grundy Center.
Funeral services will be held in the German Presbyterian church in Grundy Center Thursday afternoon with the local pastor, Rev. K. J. Stratemeier, officiating. Burial will be in the Grundy Center cemetery.
Mr. Boike was 76 years old on the 30th of last July. He was born in Bunde, Ostfriesland, Germany. He came to this country in 1881 and the following year he was married to Miss Grace Muhring, who died two years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Boike resided on a farm 3 miles northwest of Grundy Center for several years. 19 years ago they moved to Grundy Center. Since the death of his wife Mr. Boike made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Jacob Hoffa.
Surviving relatives are two sons, John from Grundy Center and Herman from Eldora. There are three daughters, Mrs. Harvey Hutzel, Eldora, Mrs. Elmer Hoffa and Mrs. Jake Hoffa, Grundy Center. There are sixteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One brother resides at Clara City, Minn.
