Jacob Hoffa Died At Grundy Hospital

Jacob Daniel Hoffa died last Thursday morning at the Grundy hospital. He was brought to the hospital on Wednesday and he was to have had surgery Thursday morning. Shortly before surgery he suffered a heart attack and died within a very short time. He had been in failing health the past few years. He was 67 years old.

Funeral services were at the Engelkes Funeral Home in Grundy Center Saturday afternoon and later at the Lutheran church. Because of the absence of a local pastor at the Grundy Lutheran church, Rev. Tillmanns from Waverly officiated at the service.

Jacob Hoffa was born in O'Brien county and he grew up there. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hoffa. On December 7, 1916, Jacob Hoffa and Minnie Boike were married at Sanborn, Iowa. Shortly after their marriage the couple came to Grundy county and for a number of years resided on a farm west of Grundy Center. For 13 years he operated the service station at the Marshalltown intersection. The past 18 years he and his wife resided in Grundy Center. He did odd jobs for a number of years after coming to Grundy Center. He was able to do but little work the past two years.

Surviving are the wife, two sons, Daniel from Omaha and Merle from Cedar Rapids. The surviving daughter is Margaret Brown, Marshalltown. There are five grandchildren, two brothers, Charles from Pequot Lakes, Minn. and Lloyd from Chicago. Vesta Hoffa from Primghar, Iowa, is the only surviving sister.
