Funeral Service for Edd Finger Held On Friday

Funeral services were held for Edd Finger at 11 a.m., Friday, February 9, 1979, in the St. Peter's United Church of Christ rural Wellsburg with Rev. Ronald Fisher officiating.

The organist was Mrs. Wilbert Ubben and the vocal duet was Mrs. Vivian Fisher and Leland Meyer. Casketbearers were: Gerald Kruger, Dennis Kruger, Jay Spieker, Jim Meyer, Eldon Finger and Trent Finger and an honorary bearer was Dale Finger. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Edd Finger was born the son of Frank and Pearl Zwagerman Finger on August 17, 1893, in German Township, Grundy County. He attended rural school.

On September 21, 1915, Edd was united in marriage with Tillie Boelman in German Township. To this union there were four children born. Following their marriage, they farmed in various farms in Grundy County, until the early 30's, when they bought the farm where their son is living now, 2 1/2 miles south of Aplington. In 1951, they moved to their home in Aplington and retired from farming. Edd also did some general trucking until 1972.

Mr. Finger was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, rural Wellsburg, and also served for many years as trustee of Pleasant Valley township in Grundy County.

Mr. Finger died at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 16 days at 10 p.m. Tuesday, February 6th, 1979, in Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. He suffered a stroke the day before, but had been in failing health and resided in Maple Manor in Aplington since June of last year.

Survivors are: one son, Elwin Finger of Aplington, 3 daughters: Mrs. Jake (Lillian) Kruger, Parkersburg, Mrs. Oscar (Gladys) Meyer, Aplington, and Mrs. Allen (Matilda) Spieker of Ackley; two sisters, Mrs. Maggie Kannegieter, Aplington and Ms. Anna DeVries of Wellsburg, three brothers, Dick and Henry Finger of Ackley, and Peter of Dubuque, 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Tillie in 1973; one brother; and four sisters, Bertha, Rose, Mae and Gertie.

Schwartz-Engelkes Funeral Chapel in Aplington was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
