Herman DeVries Died May 13

Herman DeVries passed away Saturday afternoon, May 13, 1978, at his home in Wellsburg due to an apparent heart attack. He reached the age of 72 years, 1 month and 13 days.

He was born on a farm in German township, northwest of Wellsburg, on March 30, 1906, the son of Folkert and Hiska (Spieker) DeVries, and attended the rural school in the area. On October 17, 1924, he was united in marriage to Anna Finger at the West Friesland Presbyterian Church. Following their marriage they lived on several farms in the Wellsburg area. In 1963, they moved to Wellsburg to make their home.

Herman was employed at the Potgeter Elevator for many years and later worked for the Town of Wellsburg until his retirement in 1974.

He was baptized in the St. Peter's United Church of Christ of Wellsburg where he was also a long time member.

Preceding him in death were: his parents, 1 brother, Fred DeVries; 1 sister, (Anna) Mrs. Ben Boelman.

Survivors are: his wife, Anna; two daughters, (Lorraine), Mrs. Wilbert Sinning of Ackley; (Pamela), Mrs. Rodney Fuller of Wellsburg; 3 grandchildren, Craig Sinning of Traer, Mrs. Mary Lou (Sinning) Stover of Iowa Falls, Ryan Fuller of Wellsburg; two great-grandchildren, Shannon and Jason Sinning; two sisters and three brothers, (Ella), Mrs. Jans Huesman of Ackley; Jerry DeVries of Ackley; Carl DeVries of Ackley; (Lenora), Mrs. John V. Janssen of Ackley; Edward DeVries of Aplington; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 16, 1978 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's United Church of Christ northwest of Wellsburg. Pastor Ronald Fisher officiated at the services. Mrs. Ronald Fisher was soloist. Mrs. Allen Spieker was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Reka Gronewold and Mrs. Lubert Meyer. Ushers were Burt Boelman and Leroy Kruse. Pall bearers were Elmer Kannegieter, Lloyd Lindaman, Elwin Finger, Robert Boelman, Leo DeVries and Meint K. Huesman. Interment was made in St. Peter's United Church of Christ Cemetery.
