Obituary of Jeanette Wiarda

Jeanette Johanna Wiarda was born the daughter of William and Ellen Wiarda February 26, 1882 in Germany. She came to this country in early life and the family settled in Grundy County. In 1917 she moved to Butler County and to the town of Aplington in 1919.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour and was baptized into the fellowship of the Aplington Baptist Church on January 31, 1924 by Rev. H. W. Wedel. She remained a faithful and loyal member of her church until the time of her passing. She was also a member of the Benevolent Society.

She passed from this life after a brief illness on Wednesday, December 10, at the University hospital in Iowa City, having attained the age of 76 years, 9 months, and 14 days.

Preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters, and two brothers. She is survived by two sisters: Mrs. Ellen Jansen of Ackley, and Anna of Aplington; one brother, Robert of Ackley; and several nieces and nephews.

The memorial service was held on Friday afternoon, December 12 in the Aplington Baptist Church, with the pastor, the Rev. Donald Patet, officiating. Interment was at St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed Cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Harm Sherman rendered vocal selections, and Miss Jean Dreyer served as organist. Casket bearers included Dean Wiarda, Fred Wiarda, Robert Janssen, Raymond Janssen, Irving Wiarda, and Darius Wiarda.
