Mrs. Hilka Miller Pioneer Resident Dies Sunday a.m.

Mrs. Hilka Miller, a pioneer resident of this area, died Sunday morning at the home of her son, Arend, six miles southeast of Ackley, at the age of 85. Mrs. Miller fell in the yard at her home about six weeks ago and fractured her hip. She had been at home from the hospital for a week, but had never recovered from the shock of her accident.

Mrs. Miller was born Hilka Van Heiden, in German township, Grundy county, Iowa on June 15, 1869. She was married to Jacob Miller on April 2, 1890, and they farmed in this community until their retirement many years ago.

They were members of St. Peters Evangelical and Reformed church of Wellsburg, their names first appearing on the church register in 1893. Mr. Miller died April 22, 1927, after which Mrs. Miller made her home with her son Arend and family.

Surviving are five children, Mrs. Martin Geiken, Heye, Seede, Johannes and Arend Miller, who all live in or near Ackley; one brother, John Van Heiden of Aplington, 22 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Three children preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. at the home and at one o'clock at St. Peters church, conducted by the Rev. C. Jankowsky. Burial was in the church cemetery.
