Former Wellsburg Man Died In So. Dakota

John G. Groeneveld was born in western Germany on August 27, 1865. At the age of 4 he came to America with his parents and settled in the vicinity of Wellsburg, where he later married Altje Peters. To this union 4 children were born, 2 of whom died at an early age.

After the death of his wife in 1897, the deceased moved out weest and settled near Rapid City, South Dakota, where he married Mrs. Lena Bahr in 1914. One son was born to this union. Later they moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he spent the last 14 years of his life.

Mr. Groeneveld was privileged to enjoy good health until the last 6 months. He passed away at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 30, 1954.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his widow, 2 sons, John J. of Eldora, and George C. of Fargo, North Dakota; 1 daughter, Mrs. George Hayenga of Wellsburg; 1 step-son, Raymond Bahr of Rapid City, South Dakota; 1 step-daughter, Mrs. Pearl Stapleton of Housten, Texas. Other survivors are 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services for Mr. Groeneveld were held on Saturday, October 2, 1954 at the Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota with services in charge of Rev. Trummel. On Monday, October 4, funeral services were held at the John Doyen home at 11 a.m. Rev. John Olthoff was officiating clergyman. Interment was made in the St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed church cemetery.

Groeneveld and Marvin of Fargo, North Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. John Groeneveld, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Groeneveld, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Groeneveld, and Rogers Peters of Eldora; Mr. and Mrs. G. Stenke of Keystone; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Boelman of Ackley; Mr. and Mrs. Tim Dudden, Carl Dudden, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Dudden, Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Dudden, Mary Dudden, Gordon Peters and Mrs. Fred Peters all of Grundy Center; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Groote of Dike; Mrs. B. B. Lindaman, Nellie Zindler, Mr. and Mrs. John Groeneveld, Mr. and Mrs. Jans Groeneveld, Wm. Peters all of Aplington; Mr. and Mrs. Ben Trey, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Escher, Mrs. Simon Peters all of Parkersburg; Mr. and Mrs. George Alspach of Stout.
