John H. Johnson was born September 6, 1885 at Parkersburg, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harm Johnson. In his early years he homesteaded in North Dakota, but returned to Iowa about 1907 to work on a farm in Grundy County. In 1917 he moved to Minnesota where he began farming for himself.

On November 1, 1924 he was married to Effie Abbas and in the fall of 1938 they moved to Iowa to make their residence at Ackley. Mrs. Johnson passed away March 27, 1947.

In 1955, John moved to Sumner where one of his brothers was living, but returned to Ackley in 1965 where he resided until his death.

John H. Johnson became a member of the Westfriesland Presbyterian Church on March 27, 1949.

While returning from the funeral of a niece, Mrs. Everett Thoren at Grundy Center, Mr. Johnson died of a heart attack on Monday, June 10, at the age of 82 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harm Johnson; three sisters: Dena (Mrs. John Freese), Kate (Mrs. Ed Slifer) and an infant sister, and three brothers, Henry, Harry and George; and by his wife, Effie. He is survived by one brother, Louis of Waterloo.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Westfriesland Presbyterian Church with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Kenneth Remer officiated at the services.
