Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, October 14, at 1:30 at the West Friesland Presbyterian Church near Ackley for Henry Stubbe, 82, of Ackley, who passed away Thursday afternoon, Oct. 10th at his home. The Rev. Kenneth A. Remer officiated and interment was in the church cemetery.
Henry Stubbe was born July 2, 1886 in Groningen, Netherlands, the son of Theodore and Cora Swede Stubbe. He came to America when he was seven years old with his parents, brothers and sisters. They settled northeast of Parkersburg. Two years later the family lost their father.
He was united in marriage February 22, 1911 to Nancy Johnson. They farmed east of Ackley in Butler County until 1946 when they moved to Ackley. He was a member of the Austinville School Board for 13 years, also a director and part owner of the Austinville Elevator. The past 30 years he has been a seed corn dealer of the Farmers Hybrid Corn Company.
He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church of Ackley, where he served as deacon. Later he joined the West Friesland Presbyterian Church, where he also served as deacon.
He and Mrs. Stubbe were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1961.
Mr. Stubbe is survived by his widow, Nancy; two daughters, Cora, at home, Mrs. Gratus (Tarana) Geerdes of Wellsburg; three sons: Theodore and Christie both of Aplington; LuVerne of Ackley; 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Mrs. Rosa Harken of Aplington and 1 brother, Cornie Mooi of Ackley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter, Mrs. Albert (Elizabeth) Penning, 1 grandson, Eugene Geerdes, 3 sisters and 5 brothers.
