John P. Rops Dies Of Coronary Attack, Services Held Tues.

John Rops, 50, passed away at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Friday morning after a coronary occlusion. He had been disabled with arthritis for a year prior to his death.

Mr. Rops was born on November 17, 1909, in Grundy County, the son of Peter J. Rops and Martha Harken Rops. He attended school in Austinville and Aplington.

On January 20, 1931, he and Lula M. Brand were married. During their married life they lived in Austinville. Mr. Rops had worked in Austinville for 33 years, 20 of which were in the grain and feed business.

He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Austinville and was a member of the board of directors of the Washington Township Telephone Company.

Mr. Rops was preceded in death by his mother, father, and infant son.

Surviving him are his wife; two sons, Dennis at home and Marvin of Rock Rapids; five daughters, Frances and Mary at home, Betty (Mrs. Donald Harken) Ackley, Joann (Mrs. Eugene Beving) Ackley, and Valda (Mrs. Arlo Dougan) Iowa Falls; nine grandchildren; one brother, Ubbe, State Center; three sisters, Mae (Mrs. Mae Jacobs) Austinville, Elizabeth (Mrs. Everett Dietz) Waterloo, and Margaret (Mrs. Robert Henkel) Austinville.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Austinville Christian Reformed Church with the Rev. Tebben officiating. Interment was in the West Friesland Church cemetery.
