Jerry Arends Dies Suddenly

Jerry E. Arends passed away suddenly at his home Saturday after a long illness. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. M. R. Houts of the Evangelical United Brethren Church, were held in the church Tuesday afternoon with interment in the West Friesland Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Mr. Arends, the son of Eppe and Bauke (Smidt) Arends, was born August 23, 1893 in Grundy county. On January 15, 1918 he and Nancie Ulfers were married in Grundy county by the Rev. J. J. Agena. They lived on farms in the Ackley vicinity until February 14, 1953, when they retired and moved to Ackley. They have since made their home at 515 Franklin St.

Mr. Arends was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the E.U.B. Church of Ackley.

Surviving are his wife; his son, Byron Joseph; his daughter Norma Lou (Mrs. Bernard Viet), a sister Anne (Mrs. Harry Bielke) of Waterloo and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, and four brothers.
