Venno Janssen Dies In Convalescent Home

Venno Janssen, who spent the early part of his active life on a farm in Grundy county, died at a convalescent home in Waterloo last Wednesday. He had been a patient at the home for six weeks following treatment for a heart ailment in the Allen Memorial Hospital at Waterloo. He was 76 years old.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Westfriesland Presbyterian church in German township. Burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Mr. Janssen was born in German township, Grundy county, Dec. 10, 1877. He grew up on a Grundy county farm. On February 28, 1901, he and Hilka Harken were married. They resided on a farm near Ackley until 15 years ago when they moved to Ackley. Mrs. Janssen died Jan. 13th of this year.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Nancy Miller, Mrs. Lester Jansonius, Ackley, and Mrs. Jake Nevenhoven, Aplington; the five surviving sons are Isbrand V., Henry V., John V., Carl V., and Wallace V., Ackley. There are 3 surviving brothers. They are Henry Janssen, Aplington, Ralph, Austinville, and Harm, Ackley. There are 32 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
