Ackley--Henry Ulfers, 71, in a convalescent home at Osage Friday, after having been an invalid for years; funeral, Monday at 1:15 p.m. from the Frank Anders home here and at 1:30 at St. John's church; burial in West Friesland church cemetery; born May 8, 1880, on farm near Ackley, to Harm and Hattie Ulfers; married Etta Ludemann of Ackley Jan. 22, 1903, and couple lived on farm home until her death June 6, 1918. In the fall of 1918, Mr. Ulfers and his daughters moved to a farm near Alta Vista, where he lived until 1941, when he went to Mitchell county to live with a daughter, Mrs. Roy Richsmann for an eight year period; last two years he spent in convalescent homes in Stacyville and in Osage; survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Roy Richsmann, Osage, Mrs. Edgar Schmidt, Springfield, Ill.; Mrs. Freida Vance, Spring Valley, Minn., and Mrs. O. D. Reed, El Monte, Cal., five grandchildren, a great-grandson, a great-granddaughter; three brothers, Harry Ulfers, of Arena, N.D.; Chris and Clarence of Ackley; four sisters, Mrs. Ralph Beninga, Marietta, Minn., and Mrs. Nancy Arends, Mrs. Jane Arends, and Mrs. Frank Anders, all of Ackley; preceding him were his parents, his wife and one brother, John Ulfers.

Henry Ulfers Died At Convalescent Home

Henry Ulfers, well known in the northwest part of the county and in the Ackley community, died on Friday in a convalescent home at Osage. He had been in failing health several years and spent much of that time in convalescent homes at Stacyville and Osage. He was 71 years old.

Funeral services were held Monday at St. John's church in Ackley. Burial was in the West Friesland church cemetery.

He was born on a farm near Ackley, May 8, 1880. January 23, 1903, he married Etta Ludemann and they made their home on a farm. The wife died in 1918.

After the death of his wife, Mr. Ulfers made his home with his children.

Surviving are four daughters: Mrs. Roy Richtsmann, Osage; Mrs. Edgar Schmidt, Springfield, Ill.; Mrs. Frieda Vance, Spring Valley, Minn.; Mrs. O. D. Reed, El Monte, Calif. There are five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Other surviving relatives are three brothers, Harry Ulfers of Arena, N.D.; Chris and Clarence of Ackley; four sisters, Mrs. Ralph Beninga, Marietta, Minn., and Mrs. Nancy Arends, Mrs. Jane Arends and Mrs. Frank Anders, all of Ackley. Preceding him were his parents, his wife and one brother, John Ulfers.
