Geo. Groninga Dies Sunday

George K. Groninga, son of Joseph and Mary Groninga passed away Sunday evening, June 9 at 7 p.m.

He was born in 1878 near Aplington in Butler County. He was united in marriage March 25, 1904 to Kate Hayenga.

This marriage was blessed with eight children, four daughters and four sons. Three sons and two daughters preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Carter Zwyers and Mrs. Alan Bishop; one son, Mervin Groninga; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Jessie Abkes of Iowa Falls, Mrs. Ed Dekker, Mrs. Raymond Harken and Mrs. Follia VanGerpen of Aplington; one brother, Claus Groninga of Ackley, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Groninga lived in Butler and Franklin counties all of his life. He was a member of the Westfriesland Presbyterian Church and was a trustee of this church for over 25 years.

Services were held Wednesday, June 10, at 1:30 p.m. at the home and at 2 p.m. at the Westfriesland Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. P. H. Eekhoff officiating.

Interment was in the Westfriesland cemetery.
