Mrs. Venno Janssen Passes Away Tues., Services Friday P.M.

Mrs. Hilke Harken Janssen died suddenly Tuesday at 8 a.m. at her home. She was believed to be well on her way to recovery after a lingering illness when death occurred.

Mrs. Janssen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. K. Harken, was born in Nachusa, Ill., Feb. 20, 1880. At the age of two weeks she and the rest of the family moved to Butler county, Iowa, to a farm near Austinville.

On Feb. 28, 1901, she was married to Venno Janssen. To this union were born eight children.

In the early years of her married life she was a member of the Ackley Christian Reformed church, but later transferred her membership to the Westfriesland Presbyterian church, which she attended faithfully until failing health prevented. She also was a charter member of the Ladies Aid.

Mr. and Mrs. Janssen lived on a farm west of Westfriesland church until they moved to Ackley in 1938.

She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, Venno Janssen; her children, Mrs. Nancy Miller, Ackley, Isebrandt, Ackley, Henry, Wellsburg, John, Ackley, Mrs. Sadie Nevenhoven, Aplington, Carl, Mrs. Helena Jansonius and Wallace, of Ackley. She is also survived by seven brothers, Will Harken, Ackley, Raymond, Aplington, Ahme and Ubbe, Iowa Falls, Eno, Austinville, John, Cedar Falls, Isebrandt, Jesup; and four sisters, Mrs. Rykus Rykena, Mrs. Ben Stubbe, Ackley, Mrs. Shara Abbas, Iowa Falls, Anna, Ackley. There are also 32 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and may other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 12:30 p.m. at the home and at 1 p.m. at the Westfriesland church, with the Rev. P. H. Eekhoff conducting. Interment will be in Westfriesland cemetery.
