Sarah Miller Hostetter was born Aug. 17, 1876 in Scott county, Iowa, the daughter of John and Nancy Ann Miller.

The family moved to Grundy County, Iowa, in 1882, where they attended school, and the First Presbyterian church of Morrison; a church that the family helped to build and organize. She joined the church Dec. 14, 1893.

Sarah Miller was a school teacher for a few years. On March 5, 1903 she was married to Martin Luther Hostetter, a Grundy county farmer. They made their home for many years on their farm one mile south of Morrison, now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lovell.

They had one daughter, Helen Marlys, now Mrs. W. B. Caves of Homestead, Fla.

After retiring from the farm the family lived in Waterloo and spent the winters in Miami, Fla. It was while in Miami March 12, 1925, that Mr. Hostetter died.

Those preceding her in death besides her father, mother and husband were her seven sisters and one brother: Mrs. Nancy Copley, Mrs. Maggie Mooty, Mrs. Jemima Long, Mr. James Miller, Mrs. Henrietta Mooty, Mrs. Mary Copley, Mrs. Elizabeth Miller and Hannah Miller.

Mrs. Hostetter made her home in Grundy Center following her husband's passing, living with her sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Miller. She is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Grundy Center, and at one time was active in the Woman's Club and W.C.T.U.

The Homestead Manor Nursing Home has cared for her four and one half years.
