Manton Bakker Services Held

Manton Bakker, 90, of Ackley, and formerly of Grundy Center, died Tuesday, September 15, at the Ackley Presbyterian Home of natural causes.

Funeral services were held Friday, September 18, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center with Rev. Calvin Vanderwerf officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center.

Manton was born the son of Walter and Fannie Kruse Bakker on August 16, 1902, in Grundy County. He was united in marriage to Lizetta J. Sparenborg at the home of her parents on January 22, 1931, by Dr. K. J. Stratemeier, then pastor of the Bethany Presbyterian Church, Grundy Center. He and Lizetta farmed for many years. Lizetta passed away on April 27, 1978.

On September 29, 1979, he married Marie Stevens of Grundy Center, in the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He was an active 67 year member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church serving in many capacities. He had farmed his whole life. For 40 consecutive years, he enjoyed wintering in Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, Wilbur; and his first wife, Lizetta.

He is survived by his wife, Marie, of the Presbyterian Home, Ackley; one step-son Stanley and his wife Beverly, of West Des Moines.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
