Elmer Newton Services Held

Elmer S. Newton passed away Monday, September 14, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center having attained the age of 87 years.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center with Pastor George Gibson officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center.

Elmer was born January 15, 1905, in Grundy County the son of Harry and Marie Robins Newton. He attended school in Grundy County.

On June 4, 1949 he was united in marriage to Mary Emma Bailey in the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He farmed in Grundy County until his retirement in 1974. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Fred, Bruce, and Oscar; and 2 sisters, Marian Brown and Katherine Schaa.

Survivors include his wife Mary Emma of Grundy Center; 3 brothers, Donald of Las Vegas, Nevada, Roland of Waterloo, and Richard of California; 1 sister, Mrs. Fred (Harriett) Finke of Grundy Center.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home of Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
