Fred Newton Services Held
Fred Newton, 85, of rural Grundy Center died Monday, July 6 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 9 at French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck with interment in the Reinbeck Cemetery.
Fred was born February 26, 1907 at Grundy Center, the son of Harry and Marie Newton. He received his schooling in the Morrison school. He grew up in this area.
He was united in marriage to Helen Watson and the couple resided at their present home all their married life. Fred was a bean and corn inspector for the State of Iowa and later was Grundy County Weed Commissioner.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Reinbeck and a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge at Grundy Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Oscar and Bruce; two sisters, Marion Brown and Katerine Shaa.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Helen of Grundy Center; a son, Larry of Grundy Center; a daughter, Mrs. Don (Helen) Lage, of Grundy Center; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; four brothers, Richard, Roland, Donald and Elmer; and one sister, Harriett.
