Carol Albert was born March 28, 1910, the daughter of Ethan and Anna Swanson Akin in Grundy Center. She graduated from high school in Grundy Center, attended Northwestern University and Iowa State Teachers College where she was affiliated with the Kappa Theta Psi Sorority.
On June 21, 1931, Carol was united to Harold Albert in Grundy Center. She and her husband farmed in Iowa for many years where they raised the popular Black Hawk Hereford Cattle. Carol taught county school during the depression riding her horse to school for transportation. She later owned and operated Carol's Beauty Salon in Waterloo and Cedar Falls for 30 years. Besides living in Iowa she also lived in Colorado Springs, CO and Sun City, AZ. The last four years she resided in Fort Collins, CO.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a member of P.E.O. in Colorado Springs, CO, a Sunday school teacher, volunteered as a 4-H leader, and for Alzheimer's care at Interfaith. She enjoyed bridge, needlework and music.
On June 9, Carol passed away at the Columbia Care Center West in Ft. Collins. She reached the age of 82 years. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her twin sister; and 2 brothers.
Survivors include 2 daughters Claire Schamberger of Ft. Collins, CO and Carma Johnson of Golden, CO; 1 brother John Akin of Decatur, IL; 5 granddaughters; and 2 great-granddaughters.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on June 14 at the Allnutt Funeral Service Goodrich Chapel with Rev. Robert Hamilton officiating. Interment of cremains will be at the Reinbeck Cemetery in Reinbeck. Memorial contributions may be made to Interfaith in care of the Goodrich Chapel.
