Joseph Hulne Services Held

Joseph W. Hulne was born January 20, 1926 in Grundy Center the son of Alois and Rose L. (Connell) Hulne. He passed away Wednesday, May 20 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center having attained the age of 66 years and 3 months.

Joe was educated in Grundy Center, graduating from Grundy Center High School in 1947. He served in the United States Navy. He was united in marriage to Bonnie Gibson on August 26, 1946 in Grundy Center. Joe owned and operated Hulne's Maidrite in Grundy Center as well as various other restaurants and lounges over the years.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center, serving as church Deacon; American Legion Post #349 and AMVETS 17; and served as a volunteer firefighter. Joe served as Councilman for the city of Grundy Center from 1970-1971.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Robert.

Survivors include four sons: Jim of New Hampton, Joe of Altoona, and Jerry and Jeff, both of Grundy Center; three daughters: Linda Weber and Pam (Mrs. Tim) Schmidt, of Grundy Center, and Pat (Mrs. Kerry) Hitchings of Kent, Washington; 17 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; one brother, Charles Hulne of Chicago, IL; and one sister, Rose Marie Ralston of Grundy Center.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, May 23 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center at 10 a.m. with Fr. Everett Freese officiating. Honorary pallbearers were all nephews: Kevin Ralston, Michael Ralston, Steven Ralston, Charles Hulne, Patrick Hulne, and Peter Hulne.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the professional arrangements.
