Rites Held For Thelma Siefken

Thelma E. Siefken was born March 9, 1913 in Grundy Center the daughter of Charley and Harriett (Algood) Dunham. She passed away Wednesday, May 20 at the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Shenandoah having attained the age of 79 years, 2 months, and 11 days.

Mrs. Siefken grew up and was educated in Grundy County, and graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1931. She was united in marriage to John Siefken on February 17, 1940 in Holland. Thelma was employed for U.S. Government Bins as a gate opener, retiring in the 1970's.

She was a member of the Holland Christian Reformed Church and of the Ladies Aid.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1983; one son, Paul; her parents; and one brother, Glen Dunham.

Survivors include one daughter, Karen Shillinglaw of Shenandoah; one son, Charles H. Siefken of Grundy Center; 4 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Homer Dunham of Parkersburg and Joseph Dunham of Waterloo; and one sister, Lillie Mae Seehusen of Chatfield, MN.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 23 at the Holland Christian Reformed church in Holland at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Kroon officiating. Pallbearers were James Siefken, Gary Siefken, Jerry Schmidt, James Heronimus, Dean Schultz, and Daniel Siefken. Honorary pallbearers were: Floyd Harberts and Charles Barfels. Burial was in the Holland Cemetery.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
