Rites Held For John Walbaum Jr.

John Walbaum, Jr. was born February 5, 1921, in Grundy County the son of John and Johanna Beenken Walbaum, Sr. He passed away Thursday, March 26 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit in Grundy Center having attained the age of 71 years, 1 month, and 21 days.

John grew up and was educated in Grundy County. On March 21, 1942, he was united in marriage to Marion Dalton in Lancaster, Missouri. They made their home in Waterloo. John served three years in the united States Army. After his honorable discharge, John and Marian moved to Morrison where they owned and operated the Morrison Grocery Store for 11 years. They then lived in Hudson for twenty-one years. In 1981 John moved to Grundy Center shortly before retiring from Martin Brothers in Waterloo.

Mr. Walbaum was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church of Reinbeck.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian in 1978; his parents; and two brothers, Fred and Richard.

Survivors include two sons, Gerald of Portland, OR, and Jerold of Hudson; five grandchildren; and one brother, Lou of Marshalltown.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 28 at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Reinbeck at 10 a.m. with Rev. Glenn R. Denke officiating. Pallbearers were Troy Walbaum, Eric Walbaum, Kempton Walbaum, Richard Walbaum, Wayne Monaghan, and Paul Robertson. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center.

Engelkes-Abels Funeral in Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
