Nevin Johnson Services Held

Nevin Merle Johnson was born August 8, 1902 in rural Grundy County, the son of Martin Luther and Mary Edith Bockes Johnson. He passed away Sunday, March 15 at his home in rural Grundy Center following a lengthy illness, having attained the age of 89 years, 7 months, and 7 days.

Mr. Johnson was educated in Grundy County schools and graduated from the Cedar Rapids Business College in 1920.

He was a Veteran of World War II and was a member of the American Legion, Post #349.

He was a member of the Grundy Center United Methodist Church.

On June 6, 1943 he married Anna Margaret Devel. They lived in Waterloo where he drove city bus for the WCF&N Metro Transit. In 1945 they returned to the family farm where he remained until the time of his death.

He was preceded in death by his wife in July of 1981; one infant daughter; his parents; and two sisters, Leora Johnson of Ventura, CA, and Ruby (Mrs. Otto) Haren of Conrad.

Survivors include a son, Martin of Grundy Center; a daughter, Lois (Mrs. Dennis) Katzer of rural Conrad; two granddaughters, Marie (Mrs. Larry) Mann of Toledo, and Brenda Katzer of Conrad; and one sister, Olive (Mrs. Jay) Rhine of Venture, CA.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 18, at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. D. Ward Young officiating. Pallbearers were Lyle Neher, Willis Grimmius, Ron Flater, Vernon Kinsinger, and Merle Metge. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
