Shirley E. Mendenhall was born the daughter of Donald and Marie Behrens Mann on December 19, 1921, in Ladysmith, WI. She passed away on Tuesday, March 3, at the Marshalltown Surgical and Medical Center of complication of Multiple Sclerosis.

She graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1939 and attended Nurses Training at Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown. She was united in marriage to Ralph H. Mendenhall on July 1, 1943, in Pomeroy. She was a 4-H Leader for several years, a homemaker, a member of the United Methodist Women and Thursday Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Ralph; 2 daughters, Linda Ratts of Misawa, Japan, and Julee Jacobson of Cedar Falls; 2 sons, Don W. Mendenhall of Des Moines, and Larry R. Mendenhall of Urbandale; 7 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 7, at 2 p.m. at the Conrad United Methodist Church with Rev. David Crow officiating. Casket bearers were Matthew, Mark and Mason Mendenhall, David Mann, Craig Jacobson, David Mendenhall, Brian Jacobson, and Travis Ratts. Burial was in the Conrad Cemetery.

Johnston Funeral Home in Conrad was in charge of the arrangements.
