Rites Held For Wilbur Lawrence

Wilbur James Lawrence, the son of Albert and Effie Lawrence, was born November 3, 1918 in Barton County, Missouri and departed this life February 27 at his home in Lamar, Missouri at the age of 73 years, 3 months, and 24 days.

He grew to manhood in the community of his birth and at the outbreak of World War II he answered the call of his country and enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served honorably until the end of hostilities when he was discharged. He resided in Iowa for a time.

On May 12, 1945, he was united in marriage to LaVerne Shaeffer at Nashua. To this union was born one son and one daughter.

In 1979 he returned to Barton County to make his home, where he spent the remainder of his life.

He is survived by his wife LaVerne of their home in Lamar, and one daughter, Donna Lawrence also of Lamar, one brother Norval Lawrence also of Lamar. He is also survived by a number of other relatives and friends.

His son Larry Lawrence preceded his father in death on August 8, 1968.

Graveside services were held on Tuesday, March 3 at Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Paul C. Nelson officiating.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
