Dorothy Colleen Brindle, 83, of Conrad, IA passed away Monday, December 9, 2013, at Oakview Nursing Home, in Conrad, under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 12, 2013, at the Conrad United Methodist Church, in Conrad. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at the Conrad Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes, in Conrad. Interment will be at the Conrad cemetery.
Dorothy was born January 4, 1930 to George W. and Stella M. (Conrad) Katzer, in rural Conrad. She received her education at Felix #3 through 8th grade and graduated from Conrad High School in 1947. On August 15, 1947, she married her high school sweetheart, Marvin C. Brindle at the Alice Church of God, rural Conrad. They lived in Conrad for three years, then moved to their farm three miles west of Conrad in 1951. Dorothy was a homemaker and farmed with Marvin until they retired. She loved gardening, sewing, traveling, and wintering in Florida. She volunteered her time on the Conrad Cemetery and Conrad Library boards. She was a member of the Village & Vale and the Progress Club.
Dorothy will be missed by her four children; Diane (Richard) Everett of Waterloo, IA, Mary (Wayne) Bracy of Conrad, David (Sharla) Brindle of Conrad, Melody (John Koontz) Brindle of Cedar Falls, IA, grandchildren; Karen Bracy, Dan Bracy, Cheryl Reyes, Ryan (Melissa) Steele, Allison Raum, Jay Koontz, great grandchildren; Tristen Reyes, Brady Reyes, Gunner Steele, Rylee Steele, and one on the way, one brother, Ronald (Ann) Katzer, two sisters; Betty Kollasch, Bonnie (Harold) Urhammer, sisters-in-law; Joann Katzer and Heidi Katzer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, her parents, George and Stella Katzer, two brothers; Vernon Katzer and Larry Katzer, and her beloved cat Freddie.
