Doris A. Slessor, 89, of Reinbeck, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Parkview Manor. A Funeral Service for Doris will be held, Monday, December 14, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Congregational Church of Christ In Reinbeck. Burial will follow the service at the Reinbeck Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, were the family we received friends at the Church. Memorials can be directed to the Reinbeck Library.
Doris was born April 23, 1926, in Lincoln to her parents, Emil and Hazel (Wollesen) Jipp. She graduated from Reinbeck High School, and attended the University of Northern Iowa, formerly known as Iowa State Teachers College, for one year. On August 29, 1944, Doris was united in marriage to Charles "Chuck" Slessor.
Doris was a long time member of the Union Congregational United Church of Christ and the Church Circle. She also was a member of the PEO chapter DQ and the Eastern Star. Doris enjoyed working with her hands whether it was in the garden growing flowers and vegetables, doing jig-saw puzzles, or making latch hook rugs. She also enjoyed reading to her children.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Stanley (Ellen) Slessor of Brooklyn, Iowa; three daughters, Joanne DeLaHunt and Janet Slessor of Reinbeck, and Diane High of Waterloo; a daughter-in-law, Karen Slessor of Reinbeck; seven grandchildren, Kent Slessor, Eric Slessor, Greg (Caitlin) Slessor, and Steve (Megan) Slessor, Shannon (Adam) Hutchinson, Patrick (Meghan) Slessor, and April (Ray) Deojay; six great-grandchildren, Harper, Sage, Cal, Will, Ella, and Roderick; and one brother, John Jipp of Grand Prairie, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles, one son, Rodney, a son-in-law, Robert High, and one brother, David Jipp.
