Irene Groote Services Held
Irene M. Groote, 74, of the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, died Wednesday, January 15 at the Lutheran Home of natural causes.
She was born on October 7, 1917 in rural Reinbeck, the daughter of Harry and Louise (Noltensmeier) Samo. She lived on the farm with her parents and attended country school north of Reinbeck, and graduated from Reinbeck High school in 1936. She continued living with her parents for a time and on January 20, 1939, Irene was united in marriage to Gaylen Stewart. The couple farmed in Grant Township and to this union two children were born. The couple was later divorced. On July 31, 1951, she was united in marriage to Ernest Groote. To this union one child was born, and the couple later moved to Cedar Falls, where Ernest worked for Brigg's Transportation Co., and Irene worked in the home. Irene and Ernest were later divorced and Irene continued to live in Cedar Falls. In 1989, Irene became a resident of the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home where she has lived ever since.
Irene is survived by one son, Robert C. Stewart of Cedar Falls; and two daughters, Colleen Carpenter of Cedar Falls, and Carol McKillip of Cedar Falls; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were held on January 18 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Chapel with Chaplain David Stewart officiating. Burial was in the Reinbeck Cemetery.
Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
