Lois Whaley Services Held

Lois R. Whaley was born August 26, 1904 in Dike the daughter of Asa and Bessie Little Reisinger. She passed away Thursday, January 9, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center having attained the age of 87 years, 4 months, and 14 days.

Lois grew up and was educated in the Dike area, graduating from Dike Consolidated High School in 1922. In 1928 she obtained her BS Degree from UNI in Physical Education. Lois then taught in Iowa for three years, then moved to Knoxville, Tennessee where she taught for forty years, retiring in 1972. She was united in marriage to Edward Whaley in 1936 at Middlesboro, KY. Lois moved to Grundy Center in 1986 where she lived with her sister and made her home.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center and of the Church of the Good Shephard when she lived in Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her husband Edward; and her parents.

Survivors include her sister, Irene Miller of Grundy Center; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 11, at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center at 11 a.m. with Rev. D. Ward Young officiating. Pallbearers were Jeff Miller, Dave Miller, James Miller, Mike Muller, Wilbur Muller, and Kevin VanHeiden. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
