Rites Held For Martha Arends

Martha Maggie Arends of Stout, was born the daughter of John J. and Kate Poppen Arends on July 7, 1912 in Grundy County, near Fern. She attended rural school near her home.

Martha lived most of her life in Stout. The last four years she had been a resident of Maple Manor in Aplington. She was also a member of the Reformed Church of Stout.

At 2:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 1 Martha died at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. She reached the age of 79 years, 5 months, and 24 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 infant brothers; and two sisters, Anna Raske and Lena Luchtenburg.

Martha is survived by two brothers, Joe Arends of New Hartford and Ernest Arends of Parkersburg; one sister, Lillian Myers of Parkersburg and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, January 4 at the Reformed Church of Stout with Pastor Don Ringnalda officiating. Casketbearers were Leonard Myers, Eldon Myers, Daryl Myers, Wayne Arends, Kenneth Luchtenburg, and Kendall Luchtenburg. Interment was at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Parkersburg.

Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg was in charge of the arrangements.
