Grace Abbas Services Held
Grace Abbas was born on April 13, 1903 in Aplington the daughter of William and Mary Koppedreyer DeBoer. Grace grew up in the Aplington area and attended Aplington schools.
On December 19, 1923 she was united in marriage to John G. Abbas at the home of her parents in Butler County. They lived in the Wellsburg area and to this union four children were born.
Grace was a member of the Willing Workers of the Second Christian Reformed Church and was formerly a 4-H leader and Sunday School teacher, she also loved her flowers and gardening.
She passed away on November 24 of natural causes at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. She attained the age of 88 years, 7 months, and 11 days.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988; one son, William; two brothers, Jurjen and John DeBoer; and one sister, Tillie DeBoer.
Grace is survived by one son, John J. Abbas of Wellsburg; two daughters, Nellie (Mrs. Raymond) Harken of Aplington and Mary (Mrs. Raymond) Hippen of Wellsburg; two brothers, George DeBoer of Allison Care Center, Bill DeBoer of Aplington; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 27 at 1:30 p.m. at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg with Rev. H. Charles Kooger officiating. Mrs. LuRay Neessen was the organist and Mr. Richard Schafer sang "Where the Roses Never Fade" and "My God and I". Casketbearers were Larry Harken, Delmar Harken, Harold Crosser, Harold Harken, Arnold Hippen, and Kenneth Abbas. Ushers were John Hoodjer and Herman Koch. Burial was in the Ackley Christian Reformed Church Cemetery in rural Ackley.
The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
