Dick Froning Services Held

Richard T. Froning was born June 30, 1935 to Robert and Mabel Bawn Froning in Parkersburg. He passed away Wednesday, November 27 at Covenant Medical on Kimball Avenue in Waterloo having attained the age of 56 years, 4 months and 28 days.

Dick attended school in Parkersburg. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1956. Dick was united in marriage to Patricia Ann DeVries on October 27, 1956 at Bethel Reformed Church in Aplington.

He was a maintenance operator for the Grundy County Maintenance Department for 31 years. He retired in September of 1991 with a medical disability. Dick was an avid outdoorsman, and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed music and playing his synthesizer. He was a member of the Dike United Methodist Church.

Dick was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Leroy "Butch" Froning; and by his step-father, Eugene Galpin.

Survivors include his wife Patricia; three daughters, Denise Petersen of Dike, her children Jennifer and Matthew; Mrs. James (Therese) McCullough of Boise, Idaho, her children, Jessica and Sean; Mrs. John (Bernice) James of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, her children, Joshua and Jeremiah; his mother Mabel Froning Galpin of Dike; one brother, Ronald Froning of Alta Loma, California; and two sisters, Mrs. William (Janice) Stolte of Luzerne, and Mrs. Rev. David (Barbara) Bangert of Mondori, Wisconsin.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 30 at the United Methodist Church in Dike at 10:30 a.m. with Dr. Gary L. Armstrong and Pastor Dennis Sanders officiating. Pallbearers were Ivan Flater, Leon Walterman, Gary Wanner, Larry Erpelding, Lee Walters and Jim Gerstenkorn. Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Dike American Legion Post #471.

Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
