Rites Held For Theron VerSteeg

Theron Grant VerSteeg was born the son of Tony and Winerva DeRuyter VerSteeg on November 7, 1966 at Rock Rapids, Iowa. He passed away Saturday, October 26, at 10:30 p.m. at the University Hospital in Iowa City of cancer. He attained the age of 24 years, 11 months, and 19 days.

Theron attended and graduated from Western Christian High School, Hull, Iowa. He attended and received a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Dordt College at Sioux Center. Theron was an active member and sang in the Dordt Choir.

On June 17, 1988, he was united in marriage to Michelle W. Altena at the Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley. Theron and Shelly moved to Wellsburg and he taught the 3rd and 4th grade classes at the Timothy Christian School in Wellsburg from September 1988 to May 1991. He was an active member in the Timothy Christian Ambassadors.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ted and Florence VerSteeg; an uncle, Douglas VerSteeg; and maternal grandfather, August DeRuyter.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle (Shelly) of Wellsburg; father and mother, Tony and Winerva VerSteeg of Rock Valley; maternal grandmother, Gert DeRuyter of Rock Valley; two brothers, Nolan Jay VerSteeg and Justin Roger VerSteeg both of Rock Valley; and one sister, Jolene Joy Bandstra if Sioux Center.

Funeral services were held on October 30 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church rural Wellsburg. Burial was in the First Christian Reformed Church Cemetery.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home of Wellsburg was in charge of the arrangements.

A memorial fund has been established.
