Robert Betts Services Held

Robert C. Betts, 77, of 1802 S. 3rd Street, passed away on October 15 at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. Funeral services were held on October 18 at 12 p.m. at the Hope United Methodist Church, with Rev. Leonard Sjogren officiating. Burial followed at the 1st Christian Reformed Church Cemetery in Wellsburg.

Bob was born January 5, 1914 to Carl and Mary Betts at Brashear, MI. After graduating from Bible Grove, Missouri High School he worked as a carpenter with an uncle in LeGrand. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater, during W.W. II.

Until 1969 he was employed as a carpenter and cabinet maker in Marshalltown, and from 1969 to 1983 he was self employed in Ames. Since then he and his wife have retired in Marshalltown. He is a member of Hope United Methodist Church, the evening Lions Club, and the Frank Lewis Glick American Legion Post #46.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mrs. Wilma McCollum.

Surviving are his wife, Marine; a son Russell C. of Westminster, Colorado; a daughter, Gaile (Mrs. Larry) Collum of Marshalltown; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Elmer of San Diego, California, and Wallie of Covington, Georgia.

A memorial has been established to the Iowa River Valley Hospice.
