Rites Held For Henry Janssen

Henry V. Janssen of 416 Cerro Gordo, Ackley, Iowa, was born the son of Venno A. and Hilka Harken Janssen on August 30, 1905, in German Township in rural Grundy County, southeast of Ackley. He attended rural German Township country school near his home.

On September 3, 1925, Henry was united in marriage to Henrietta Kolthoff in the parsonage of the West Friesland Church, rural Ackley. They first farmed in Butler County 2 1/2 miles northwest of Austinville. In 1938 they moved to a farm in Pleasant Valley Township where they stayed until 1947, at which time they moved to a farm in German Township near the East Friesland Church. In 1967 he moved to his present address in Ackley, Iowa. He became a resident of the Maple Manor Nursing Home in Aplington, in August of 1988.

Henry was a member of the Faith Presbyterian Church and an elder for 6 years and was chairman of the Memorial Committee. His other interests were, Grundy County School Board President, Trustee for East Friesland Church, and 15 years he was the sexton of the East Friesland Cemetery.

At 10:45 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 1991, Henry died at the Maple Manor Nursing Home in Aplington, Iowa. He reached the age of 85 years, 11 months, and 24 days. Henry was preceded in death by his wife, Henrietta on May 19, 1983; his parents; 1 son, Virgil; 4 brothers, John, Carl, Wallace and Isebrandt; and 1 sister Nancy Miller.

He is survived by: 4 sons, Delmar of Ackley, Iowa, Marvin, Kenneth and Vernon all of Wellsburg, Iowa; 2 daughters, Mrs. (Ralph) Agnes Ward of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Mrs. (Ronald) Carol Glen of Ackley, Iowa; 2 sisters: Sadie Nevenhoven of Aplington, Iowa, and Mrs. Helen Jansonious of Ackley, Iowa; 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, August 27, 1991, at the Faith Presbyterian Church, Ackley, Iowa, with the Rev. Tim Diehl officiating. Mrs. Darlene Heetland was the organist and Willie Aalderks sang "One Day at a Time" and "Amazing Grace." The Congregational Hymn was "How Great Thou Art."

Casket bearers were: Russell Janssen, Leslie Janssen, Harris Janssen, Mike Ward, Kory Shugar and Keith Janssen.

Interment was at the West Friesland Cemetery, Ackley, Iowa.

Arrangements were made by Schwartz-Engelkes Funeral Chapel, Aplington, Iowa.
