Charlotte Grimes Services Held

Funeral services for Charlotte J. Grimes were held Tuesday, August 27, 1991, at 1:30 p.m., at the United Methodist Church, Conrad, IA. Rev. David Crow officiated.

Carol Altenhein served as organist and Robert Kruse was the soloist.

Casket bearers were Harold Urhammer, John Plett, Kevin Holl, Lyle Gaston, Robert Bauer and Marvin Miller.

A committal service was conducted by St. Elmo Chapter, O.E.S., #398, Conrad.

Interment was at the Conrad Cemetery, Conrad.

Charlotte was born on April 25, 1920, the daughter of Rex G. and Ferne Houghton. She completed her grade school education in Marshalltown, graduating in 1938 in Tucson, AZ. She completed two years at Los Angeles City College. She was the Director of Medical Records at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center, retiring in May, 1982, having worked there for 18 years.

On August 23, 1941, Charlotte was united in marriage to Art DeSaulniers. He was killed in action on December 23, 1944. On December 6, 1947, she was united in marriage to Stanley M. Grimes at Huntington Park, CA. They resided in the Conrad area since 1955, living in South Gate, CA prior to that.

She was a member of the South Gate Womens Club, South Gate, CA; Former Board Member of YWCA, Marshalltown; Conrad American Legion Auxiliary, Unit #681; UMW, Conrad, various bridge clubs and St. Elmo Chapter, O.E.S., & Past Matrons Club, having served as president.

On Friday, August 23, Charlotte died at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center, where she had been a patient since July 10. She attained the age of 71 years, three months and 29 days.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Art DeSaulniers.

She is survived by her husband, Stanley; two sons, Greg D. DeSaulniers of Marshalltown and John W. Grimes of Leesburg, VA; one daughter, LeAnn (Mrs. Greg) Wolter of West Des Moines; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

The Johnston Funeral Home, Conrad, was in charge of the professional arrangements.
