Rites Held For Leona Creswell

Leona S. Creswell, 83, of Traer, died August 2, at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo after several months illness.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 5, 1991 at 2 p.m. at the Overton Funeral Home in Traer with Pastor Glenn R. Dieken officiating.

Casket bearers were Arden Anderson, Dale Brown, Gayle Creswell, Dwayne Smith, James Young and Sam Young.

Sharon Anderson, a friend of the family, gave a reading "Footprints" at the service.

Leona S. Creswell was born August 7, 1907 in Grundy County, the daughter of Arthur and Lenna Cowie Brown. Leona received her education at country school. On June 26, 1937, she was married to Virgil Creswell at Manchester. Leona and Virgil made their home farming near Grundy Center; later farming near Fairbank and then at Reinbeck. In 1955 Leona and Virgil moved to Traer and worked in farming with Harold and Jim Young until Virgil's retirement in 1985. More recently Leona and Virgil have made their home at 911 Second Street in Traer. Leona enjoyed crocheting and knitting and always enjoyed going out to play the corn game. Recently Leona had become ill and was a patient at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo when her death came on Friday, August 2, 1991, at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 25 days.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Clarence.

She is survived by her husband Virgil of Traer, three daughters, Beverly Creswell, Traer; Mrs. Roger (Carmen) Hovden of Decorah, and Donna Stoneman of Waterloo; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
