Forrest Ferree Services Thursday

Funeral services for Forrest S. Ferree, 89, former Grundy Center Funeral Director, will be held Thursday, June 27, at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Grundy Center.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center. Visitation at the church will be an hour before the service. There will be an Odd Fellows service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Home.

A memorial fund has been established.

Forrest Ferree Services Held

Forrest Ferree, 89, passed away at Allen Memorial Hospital, on June 24.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 27, at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center, at 1:30. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center. Rev. D. Ward Young officiated.

Casket bearers were Joe Cerne, Ted Meinert, William Croker, Lyle Bokholt, Eldon Dieken and Michael Stephenson.

Forrest Ferree, of Grundy Center, was born the son of William and Elizabeth Roland Ferree, on June 22, 1902, at North English. He grew up and was educated in North English. He attended the University of Iowa where he studied Pre-Medicine. Forrest was called back home to help his father on the farm because of his ailing health and later continued his education at the Worsham School of Embalming where he obtained his degree in Mortuary Science.

On June 22, 1927, Forrest was united in marriage to Ruby Rickerd in Ottumwa. They made their home in Keswick where they operated a furniture and undertaking business until moving to Grundy Center in 1942. In Grundy Center, Forrest owned and operated the Coffman and Ferree Funeral Home until retiring in 1968.

Forrest was a member of the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center where he held many offices over the years. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, was a former member of the Grundy Center Rotary Club, was Past-President of the Grundy Center Community Club, and was a member of the Iowa Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association for more than half a century.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Blanche Hervey.

Survivors include his wife Ruby; one son, Max and wife Lorraine of Minneapolis; two grandchildren, Mark Eugene and Beth Anne; two nephews, Lloyd and wife Bernadine Hervey and family of Keswick, and Elroy and wife Amy Hervey and family of South English; one niece, Helen Hervey of Oskaloosa and her son, Randy of Indianapolis.

Odd Fellows service was held on Wednesday, June 26, at 7:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of arrangements.
