Rites Held For John Moore

John Woodrow Moore, 78, of Grundy Center, passed away at his home in Grundy Center on Wednesday, May 29.

Services were held Friday, May 31, at 2:30 p.m., at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center, with the Rev. Gerald Bock officiating. An Odd Fellows service was held Thursday, May 30, at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Casket bearers were Jim Kuehl, Lyle Bokholt, Dale Grimmius, Ted Meinert, Steven Hagen, and Bill Groenewald.

Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center.

John, the son of Charles O. and Mary Anne Best Moore, was born in Monroe County on October 16, 1912. He grew up and received his education in Monroe County, graduating from Albia Schools in 1931. Following graduation he farmed with his parents. In 1937 he moved to Grundy County and continued farming.

On February 23, 1944, he was united in marriage to Gertrude Hagen Mock at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

John was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, the Shuffle Organization, and the First Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife Gertrude; two step-sons, Roger Mock of Grundy Center, and Jerry Mock of Rogers, AR; two brothers, Paul J. Moore, and Ralph L. both of Grundy Center and two step-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of arrangements.
