Walter Harms Services Held
Walter Harms, 77, of Ackley, passed away on Monday, May 6, at the Ackley Medical Clinic.
Services were held at the Faith Presbyterian Church on Thursday, May 9, at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. Tim Diehl officiating. Interment was in East Friesland Cemetery in rural Ackley.
Walter, the son of Menno and Tena Mudderman Harms, was born on September 10, 1913, in Ackley. He attended rural school in Ackley.
He was united in marriage to Carrie Sanders on April 6, 1934, at the East Friesland Presbyterian Parsonage in rural Ackley. Walter worked at Cleve's Creamery. Then he was self-employed as a carpenter for the last 45 years.
He was an active member of the Faith Presbyterian Church in rural Ackley, as well as the Steamboat Rock Boat Club, and the Eldora Wildlife Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carrie, in 1969, and two brothers, Obie, and Edward Harms.
Survivors include, one daughter, Luella VanWey of Waterloo; one sister, Katherine Vancil of Marshalltown; two granddaughters, Lori VanWey of Evansdale, and Liesha Kiesling of Springdale, AR, and two great-grandchildren, Jessica and Lindsay Kiesling.
The Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home in Ackley was in charge of arrangements.
