John G. Getting Services Held

John G. Getting was born August 10, 1907, in Colfax Township, Grundy County, Iowa, the son of George and Etta Penning Getting. He passed away Saturday, May 11, 1991 at his home in Grundy Center, after a lengthy illness, having attained the age of 83 years, 9 months and 1 day.

John attended rural schools in Colfax and German Townships. He was united in marriage to Milda Schulta on July 14, 1934, at St. Peter's Evangelical Church in German Township.

Employment years were spent in farming and as a mechanic for Dirks Implement and Petersen Implement in Grundy Center. John retired in 1972 after 22 years as a road patrolman in Lincoln Township, Grundy County. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating.

He was preceded in death by son Robert in infancy; his parents; two brothers: George and Fred; two sisters: Dena Miller, and Minnie Hartema; and one infant sister, Hannah.

Survivors include his wife Milda; son William and wife Linda of Grundy Center, one sister: Etta Dekker of Eldora; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 13, at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral home in Grundy Center at 1:30 p.m. Rev. D. Ward Young officiated.

Pallbearers were Al Miller, George Heronimus, Wally Wilts, Ed Freese, Wendall Lindaman, and Ivan Falter. Honorary pallbearer was Dick Froning.

Interment was in the Lincoln Township Cemetery, rural Grundy Center.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of arrangements.
