John Kruse Services Thurs.

John H. Kruse, of Grundy Center, passed away on Monday, April 29, at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.

Services will be held Thursday, May 2, at the Lincoln Center Reformed Church in rural Grundy Center, at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Douglas H. Bratt officiating. Friends may call at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center on Wednesday, May 1, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on Thursday, at the church one hour prior to services.

Pallbearers will be Keith Sherman, Daryl Sherman, Paul Sherman, Loren Sherman, Tim Clark, and John Aiken.

Burial will be in the Lincoln Township Cemetery, in rural Grundy Center.

John, the son of Harm and Hannah Schaa Kruse, was born on November 19, 1899, in Grundy County. John grew up in Grundy County attending rural school in Colfax and Lincoln townships.

He was united in marriage to Johanna Gerdes on February 20, 1930, at the Lincoln Center Reformed Church parsonage, by Johanna's father, Rev. Henry Gerdes.

The couple farmed for 50 years in Lincoln Township, retiring in 1966. They then moved to Grundy Center in November of 1979.

John was a member of the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church, and served on the building committee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Esther Ruth Kruse; one sister, Gretta Kruse; two brothers, Benjamin and Harry Kruse, and one grandson, Steven Rolly Aiken.

Survivors include his wife Johanna; three daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Marian) Sherman of Aplington, Mrs. Rolly (Elinore) Aiken of Big Rock, IL, and Mrs. Bob (Dorothy) Clark of Grundy Center; one son, Loren (Liz) Kruse of Ankeny; two brothers, Calvin, and Burt Kruse of Grundy Center; 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
