Alice Connell Services Held

Alice E. Connell, 86, of Grundy Center, formerly of Conrad passed away Sunday, March 24, in the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital.

A scripture service was held at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center at 7:30 p.m., on Monday, March 25.

Services were held Tuesday, March 26, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center, at 10:30 a.m., with Father Everett Frese officiating.

Pallbearers were James Connell, Joseph Connell, Jeff Connell, and Jason Sherwin. Honorary bearers were John Kaput, Paul Hunt Sr., and Dean Eslinger.

Interment was in the Sacred Heart Church Cemetery in Grundy Center.

Alice Elizabeth, the daughter of John and Lucinda Eldringhoff Boss, was born on August 27, 1903, at White Church, MO. Alice moved to Iowa as a young girl and worked on various farms.

On November 24, 1927, she was united in marriage to Thomas Connell at the Sacred Heart Church in Grundy Center. The couple farmed in the Beaman-Conrad areas and raised purebred Hampshire hogs near Conrad.

After the passing of her husband Thomas on April 13, 1966, the following December Alice moved to Winona, MN.

She was active in Grundy County 4-H activities, and a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Grundy Center. She also was a member of the St. Martha's Altar Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Thomas; two infant sons; one son Larry; three brothers, Martin, John, and Ted Boss; and four sisters, Anna Hendrix, Lucinda Schelling, Agnes Hunt, and Hilda Stein.

She is survived by: one daughter-in-law, Mrs. George (Pauline) Christensen of Winona, MN; one sister, Mrs. Ted (Jeanette) Gilliam of Peace Valley, MO, and four grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
