Rites Held For Jacob Hippen

Jacob Hippen, 95, of Wellsburg, passed away Wednesday, March 20, at the Presbyterian Home in Ackley.

Services were held Saturday, March 23, at 1:30, at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg, with the Rev. H. Charles Kooger officiating.

Pall bearers were Terry Truax, Craig Hippen, Steven Hippen, Arnold Hippen, Harold Crosser, and Mike Skramovsky.

Interment was held at the East Friesland Church Cemetery, in rural Ackley.

Jacob, the son of Frank and Isabrandina Kutzleben Hippen, was born in German Township, in Grundy County on August 27, 1895. He remained in Grundy County while growing up, attending rural schools.

On December 12, 1918, he was united in marriage to Mattie Riebkies. The couple lived and farmed in the Grundy County area. In 1947, they moved to Wellsburg, where he did custom shelling, grinding, demolition, and carpentry work.

Jake was united in marriage to Ella Thomsen Jan. 12, 1972.

He was preceded in death by his two wives, Mattie, and Ella; one brother, Henry, and one sister, Grace Gieken.

Jake is survived by two sons, Delbert and Raymond, both of Wellsburg; one daughter, Ann Marie Card, of Parkersburg; one step-daughter, Vivolyn Keninger, of Spencer; two sisters, Ella Luchtenburg, of Grundy Center, and Dora Harms, of Waterloo; two brothers, Herman Hippen, of Wellsburg, and John Hippen, of Aplington; 13 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and numerous step-great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
