Rites Held For M. Steinmeyer

Martha H. Steinmeyer, 89, of Grundy Center, passed away Thursday, March 21, at the Americana Healthcare Center in Waterloo.

Services were held Monday, March 25, at the First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. David Stellmon, and Rev. Laura Stellmon officiating.

Pallbearers were Marvin Steinmeyer, James Steinmeyer, August Steinmeyer, Laverne Junker, Kenneth Hohenberger, and Wayne Arends.

Interment was in the Lincoln Township Cemetery, in rural Grundy Center.

Martha was the daughter of August C. and Hiska Meyer Steinmeyer. She was born on October 26, 1901, in Grundy County. Her early education was received in Grundy County, later she attended the Iowa State Teachers College (UNI). She graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, with a Bachelors of Science Degree, and received her Master's Degree from Columbia University in New York City. Martha taught public school for many years in Iowa, Oregon, Michigan, and Illinois.

Martha was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, and was active in the United Presbyterian Women's Association. She also held memberships in the Iowa State Education Association, the National Education Association, the Alpha Delta Kappa International Sorority, the Pythian Sisters, the Business and Professional Women's Club, the American Association of University Women, and the Grundy Center Woman's Club. Martha enjoyed playing bridge.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her step-father John Frerichs; one brother, August Steinmeyer, and five sisters, Justena Meyer, Anna Junker, Maria Steinmeyer, Lamka Anderson, and Lena Steinmeyer.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of arrangements.
