Gepka Henze Rites Thursday

Gepka Henze, 95, of the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, passed away on Monday, February 25.

Services will be held at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, on Thursday, February 28, at 1:30 p.m. Friends may call from noon until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27, and from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 28, at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. On Thursday, February 28, friends may call at the church one hour prior to services.

Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center is in charge of arrangements.

Rites Held For Gepka Henze

Gepka Henze, 95, of Grundy Center, passed away Monday, February 25, at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital. Services were held Thursday, February 28, at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. Calvin W. Vanderwerf officiating.

Casket bearers were, Paul Henze, Calvin Brody, Eldon Muller, Richard Muller, Lesley Meester, and Kenneth Muller.

Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery, in Grundy Center.

Gepka was born on September 28, 1895, the daughter of William and Harmka Groote VanDeest, in Lincoln Township. She grew up and received her education in Grundy County.

On November 23, 1916, she was united in marriage to August Henze, in Lincoln Township. Together they farmed in Comfrey, MN, for ten years before moving to a farm south of Holland. They farmed for 21 years there before retiring in November of 1947, at that time they moved to Grundy Center. Mr. and Mrs. Henze celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1966.

Gepka was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, and an honorary member of the Lois Circle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, August; two daughters and one son (triplets) who died in infancy; one son, George; four brothers, three who died in infancy, and Adolph VanDeest; two sisters, Anna Tjepkes, and Carrie Bettenga, and one granddaughter, Mrs. Eldon (Patricia) Muller.

She is survived by two sons, Ernest and his wife Verlyn, of Grundy Center, and Clarence and his wife Adeline, of Holland; four daughters, Mrs. Herman (Jeanett) Meester, of Holland, Mrs. John (Sophia) Muller, of Parkersburg, Mrs. Vernon (Ella) Meints, of Grundy Center, and Mrs. Jake (Julia) Muller, of Aplington; one daughter-in-law, Violet Henze, of Cedar Falls; 21 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established.
