George Tonnesen Passes Away

George Tonnesen, 214 North St., long time resident of Dike, passed away on February 5 at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls. George was born Jan. 29, 1912, the son of Ole and Bertha Christensen Tonnesen.

George was a blacksmith and is survived by one son, Larry Tonnesen, Linden, Iowa 50146.

George Tonnesen Obituary

George Tonnesen, 79, of 214 North St., died of pneumonia Feb. 5, 1991, at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls. He was born in Dike Jan. 29, 1912, to Ole and Bertha Tonnesen.

He married Helen Tackenberg, March 14, 1937.

Survivors are a son Larry of Linden, IA; 2 sisters, Mrs. Alice Jensen of Tucson, AZ, and Jeanette Scott of Deeming, NM. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1978, his parents and a sister, Betty Bollar.

He graduated from Dike School in 1930. He worked at John Deere's in Waterloo, Marathon Products of Wellsburg and had his own Blacksmith Shop in Dike. Later he drove school bus for the Dike Community Schools until he retired. He was also a former Volunteer of the Dike Fire Dept.

There was no visitation, the body was cremated. Dahl, Van Hove & Schoof Funeral Home of Cedar Falls was in charge of arrangements.
