Services For Louis Riebkes

Louis Riebkes, 90, of Wellsburg, passed away Sunday, February 10, at the Presbyterian Home of Ackley.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 13, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in rural Wellsburg, at 1:30 p.m.

Louis, the son of Martin and Anna Kannegieter Riebkes, was born on August 12, 1900, in German Township. He grew up and received his education in Grundy County, attending German Township County School until the eighth grade. After eighth grade he helped his parents on the farm.

On January 21, 1925, he was united in marriage to Ellen Riekens. Louis and Ellen farmed in German Township until retiring in 1965. Louis's interest in farming continued until three years ago.

He was a member of the St. Peter's United Church of Christ, and served on the General Election board of German Township for many years. His hobbies included fishing and baseball.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents; one infant grandson, Ivan Dale Vanderwerf; three brothers, Riebke, John, and Bert, and two sisters, Mattie Hippen, and Jennie Winters.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen, of Wellsburg; one daughter, Mrs. Frederick (Marlys) Vanderwerf, of Wellsburg; three grandchildren, Pauline, Sandra, and Debbie; four great-grandchildren, Derek, Nathan, Travis, and Allison; one brother Henry of Wellsburg, and one sister, Ida Lindaman, of Wellsburg.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of arrangements.
